CH3 THE THOUSAND AND INE BOTTLES

 IMPORTANT QUESTION ANSWER

Question 1: Describe how the stranger was attacked by a dog.
Answer: The next day, the stranger’s luggage was brought from the station by a man named Fearenside, who had a dog. The stranger had a lot of luggage, including boxes of glass bottles cushioned by straw, apparatus, books, tools etc. He would probably love to yell at people to be careful with his boxes. Suddenly, Fearenside’s dog began to growl savagely at the stranger. The dog sprang straight at his hand. Things happened in a flash. The dog’s teeth had slipped the stranger’s hand. It received a hard kick. It jumped sideways and went for the stranger’s legs. His trousers were torn. The stranger glanced at his tom glove and trousers, turned and rushed up the steps into his bedroom.

Question 2: How was Mr. Hall greeted by the stranger in his room upstairs at the Inn?
Answer: As the stranger was bit by the dog and he moved upstairs to his room, he was followed by Mr. Hall to ask for any help. He went straight upstairs and entered the room through the open door without knocking. He seemed to see a handless arm waving towards him, and a face of three huge indeterminate spots in white. Then he was struck violently in the chest, hurled out, and the door slammed in his face.

Question 3: What did Fearenside tell Henfrey about the strange man?
Answer: Down at a local bar in the evening, Fearnside told Henfrey that he had seen through the tear in the strange man’s trousers. In place of the pink skin, he had seen only blackness. He told that this man had a piebald. Black here and white there in patches. He also o said that the stranger might be ashamed of it and due to this reason, he had covered his skin with bandages.

Question 4: Which incident made the stranger more alert and people suspicious of his identity?
Answer: Fearenside, the cart driver, brought the luggage of the stranger and it was being carried to the room. The stranger growled, sniffed the air and took a jump. It gripped the stranger leag and also ripped off his trousers. There was nothing abnormal or unnatural as he knew animals. especially dogs, go restless seeing a stranger. However, this incident made the stranger rush back to his room to reshape himself into a solid appearance as he looked hollow. The owner of the dog used his whip to control and pacify the agitated and growling dog. Mr. George Hall, the owner of the inn, felt concerned about the possibility of some injury to his guest. So he went to the stranger room to offer his assistance or immediate medical or any help. This dog incident also made Mr.Hall solidify his suspicion about the stranger. When he entered the stranger room, a handless arm waved towards him and he was violently pushed back. This incident must have aroused more suspicion in his heart about the stranger. The stranger, on the other hand, also became mogre alert and kept his guards as his identity could be revealed.

Question5: Why does the stranger look insensitive?
Answer: At one point of time or the other most of the people do go insensitive but some scientists invariably put on the robes of an insensitive person. Same is the case with the stranger. A superiority complex crept into the personality of the stranger imperceptibly. He thinks that he can do which nobody can do. With his acquired scientific knowledge, he feels that he can do whatever he wants to and for that he can go to any extent. He finds himself powerful enough to settle scores with those persons who have offended him inthe past. The stranger thinks that he can get anything done in his favour with the strength of money he has.  He is so selfish that he is not ready to share his knowledge with anybody. Aloofness and solitude become his permanent pals. All these things bring about a psychological change in his personality and make him look insensitive.
